The Senior Mechanical Engineer is an integral member of the Sustaining Engineering team, responsible for supporting production and driving the continuous improvement of existing Ground Support Equipment. This role provides technical leadership in the design, development, and implementation of engineering solutions. The individual will work closely with cross-functional teams and guide project to successful completion supporting the improvement of our product lines.
YOUR IMPACT
These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.
  • Perform engineering calculations, investigations, and design activities in accordance with Oshkosh and industry standards.
  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Support sustaining engineering efforts, including product improvements, redesigns, and production support.
  • Manage one or more engineering projects of varying complexity.
  • Conduct reviews with other engineers to evaluate design solutions.
  • Collaborate with electrical, hydraulic, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and supplier teams.
  • Support production by troubleshooting issues and implementing practical design solutions.
  • Support manufacturing by troubleshooting engineering issues and implementing practical design solutions.
  • Evaluate designs for performance, manufacturability, safety, durability, reliability, and cost.
  • Prepare and review layouts, designs, drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Create and modify bills of material.
  • Prepare and review layouts, drawings, specifications, engineering changes, and bills of material.
  • Perform engineering analysis to support component selection, material selection, and system performance.
  • Guide designers, technicians, and entry-level engineers on assigned projects.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams regarding technical issues and project status.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and engineering documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Regular attendance is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with three (3) or more years of related experience.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS
  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mechanical design experience supporting heavy-duty, off-highway, construction, agricultural, or similar mobile equipment.
  • Experience with sheet metal assemblies, weldments, and fabricated structures.
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude with experience testing, troubleshooting, and validating engineering designs.
  • Understanding of hydraulic systems and basic electrical integration.
  • Experience supporting production or sustaining engineering environments.
  • Experience with Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Teamcenter, or similar engineering software.
  • Experience with FEA, GD&T, and engineering drawing standards.
  • Experience with design using a 3D CAD software such as Siemens NX or SolidWorks.
  • Experience using Teamcenter or other PLM software.

Pay Range:
$73,200.00 - $117,800.00
The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
