Contracts Attorney (2604352)

D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Contracts Attorney for their Legal Department. The right candidate will review and negotiate a wide range of complex commercial transactions and agreements, including vendor agreements as well as provide legal guidance and support concerning vendor transactions, legal risks within contractual agreements and other issues that arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice in connection with vendor agreements, including professional services agreements, independent contractor and subcontractor agreements, master services agreements, purchase and supply agreements, non-disclosure agreements and other vendor and commercial agreements
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial transactions with vendors, suppliers, service providers and other counterparties
  • Provide practical, business-oriented guidance on risk allocation, limitation of liability, indemnity, security obligations, and other legal and business risks presented by vendor transactions
  • Interact daily with personnel across the company, including procurement, financial services, real estate, risk management and other business teams, regarding a broad array of contracting and compliance issues including those typically encountered in the home building industry and the mortgage and title businesses
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects; analyze business and legal risks presented by these projects, coordinate with appropriate stakeholders; and bring these projects to a successful conclusion
  • Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks, standard terms, policies and procedures to reflect current law and business needs
  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
  • Ability to travel overnight
  • Regular and reliable attendance
Education and/or Experience
  • Jurist Doctoral degree (J.D.) is required
  • 3 years or more of relevant legal experience is required, including significant experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements
  • Current license to practice law
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient at working in a fast-paced, high activity environment
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, capable of multi-tasking and completing multiple projects within stated timelines
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships via MS teams and other remote style communications
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form or via DRH applications
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email
  • Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision
  • The noise level is generally moderate
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a leading lawfirm is a plus
  • Experience with vendor agreements, professional service agreements, independent contractor and subcontractor agreements, and other commercial contracts is preferred.
