Job description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Use knowledge of steel structures, pipe racks, pipe supports, platforms, stairways, concrete slabs, foundation details, rebar, and piling details to layout and design all types of civil and structural drawings used in oil and gas process equipment and petrochemical plant facilities
  • Design and draft civil/structural drawings including module skid bases, pipe racks, pipe supports, platforms, rigid frame buildings, large structures, and other structural supports
  • Complete aspects of civil/structural design and drafting in compliance with project scopes, client specifications, standards, and applicable codes and regulations
  • Ensure drawings are dimensionally clear, complete, and correct
  • Manage design information and assemble checking packages
  • Calculate civil/structural components and pre-order materials
  • Organize design packages
  • Gain full understanding of project scopes and schedules
  • Obtain and manage design specifics from Engineering and other disciplines
  • Collaborate with Civil/Structural Checkers, Fabrication Shop, Field Construction Management personnel, and Project and Mechanical Engineering
  • Assist with design efforts from Propak’s foreign drafting office
  • Produce 3D models
  • Create layout drawings and detailing of structural modules
  • Produce civil/structural isometrics
  • Produce fabrication drawings
  • Assist design leads and provide back-up in their absence
  • Attend meetings and model reviews to discuss design aspects
  • Works with and answers questions from Fabrication Shop

Prerequisites

Education

  • Diploma in Engineering Design Drafting Technology (EDDT) or equivalent combination of training and experience in Civil/Structural design

Experience

  • Entry level position - no previous work experience is required
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2010 and higher

Other

  • Fabrication shop designing experience is an asset
  • Understanding of design and drafting practices for structural components
  • Knowledge of 3D CadWorx, 2D ACad, AutoDesk, Inventor, and Navisworks is an asset
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel

      Physical Requirements

      • Requires ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods using a computer, reading manuals, etc…
      • Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away file boxes weighing up to 25 lbs
      • Manual dexterity for data input, paperwork and use of standard office equipment
      • Wears company-standard PPE when entering fabrication shops or visiting project sites. Project site PPE includes CSA approved steel toed boots and long pants
