We are seeking a CMT Field Technician 1 to join our Southern California team! Come join us!
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Perform field and plant inspections for HMA and/or PCC production and placement
  • Conduct sampling and testing of construction materials in accordance with applicable standards
  • Monitor contractor compliance with project specifications and quality standards
  • Document and report test results accurately and in a timely manner
  • Communicate findings and issues to project engineers and contractors
  • Maintain and calibrate testing equipment
  • Assist in resolving material-related construction issues
  • Participate in safety meetings and adhere to all safety protocols
  • Support project documentation and closeout processes

Minimum requirements:
  • 1.Education:
    • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Science, or a related field.
    • OR High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of relevant experience in construction materials testing or inspection.
  • Professional Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in construction materials testing, inspection, or quality assurance.
    • Experience with Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and/or Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) plant inspection is required (minimum 1 year).
  • Other Desired Qualifications:
    • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician-Grade I Certification
    • Experience working on transportation infrastructure projects (e.g., highways, bridges, airports).
    • Familiarity with Caltrans or other DOT specifications and procedures.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Technical requirements:
  • Certifications (preferred or required):
    • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I
    • Caltrans Acceptance Tester Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
    • Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification (for HMA testing)
    • OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
  • Valid California Driver's License and clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation and reports
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with data entry and reporting software (e.g., SiteManager, LIMS)
  • Familiarity with nuclear density gauges, slump cones, air meters, and other field testing equipment
  • Understanding of construction materials standards (ASTM, AASHTO, Caltrans)
  • Knowledge of quality control/quality assurance procedures in construction materials testing

Other miscellaneous qualities:
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including occasional overnight stays depending on project location
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed
