Job description

General Purpose:
Responsible for leading structural design teams and making deliverables for engineering and construction projects.
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Perform civil/structural engineering deliverables including the design and analysis of structural steel and foundations in the heavy industrial sector.
  • Advise on design principles and standards.
  • Develop and revise engineering design procedures and technical specifications.
  • Develop sketches and coordinate the completion of associated 3D models with the design team.
  • Lead Design Reviews and Lesson Learned sessions.
  • Provide cost estimating support for civil/structural proposals (hours, quantities, etc.).
  • Performance of multiple projects on a continuous basis.
  • Coordinate the activities of the design operation including organizing staff, allocating, prioritizing, and reviewing the work of subordinates, providing technical advice and instruction.
  • Provides technical support on construction or operating sites, as needed.
  • Provide technical oversight, mentorship, and peer review in the Design team.
  • Monitor and report weekly on the status of current civil/structural design projects.
  • Assists in the recruitment and selection of structural design team staff.
  • Effectively communicate and project the principles of the Talent Advantaged Roadmap.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.

  • Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in civil or structural engineering with experience in civil/structural design for heavy industry.
  • Professional Engineer License is preferred.
  • Display a good working knowledge of industry standard design practices, good mechanical aptitude and general knowledge of engineering.
  • Understanding of design code standards and specifications (ASME, ASCE, ACI, AISC, IBC).
  • Ability to organize, allocate, prioritize, review, instruct and train work of subordinates.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with all levels in the company.
  • Ability to attain and promote good customer relationships (both internal and external).
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Proficient in the use of structural design and analysis (STAAD, or similar).
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word with intermediate skills in Excel and Outlook.
