The City of Greensboro is seeking a dependable and motivated Crew Member - Concrete to join our Transportation team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with concrete, asphalt, landscaping, or other outdoor construction experience who wants to develop valuable skills and build a long-term career in public service. As part of a six-person concrete crew, you'll help construct and maintain sidewalks, gutters, traffic islands, and special projects throughout Greensboro.

Build Your Future. The City of Greensboro is looking for a Crew Member - Concrete to join a skilled six-person concrete crew responsible for construction and maintenance projects throughout the community. This is an entry-level opportunity with room to grow.

Whether your background is in concrete, asphalt, landscaping, or another type of outdoor construction, you'll have the opportunity to learn from experienced crew members and develop hands-on skills that can lead to advancement. Your work will help create and maintain the infrastructure residents use every day-from sidewalks and gutters to traffic islands and special transportation projects. And while driving and equipment operation are important parts of the job, this position is much more than driving.

You'll be directly involved in concrete construction, forming, finishing, material placement, site preparation, and other hands-on work. About the Role: The Crew Member - Concrete performs hands-on construction and maintenance work supporting the City's street infrastructure and public spaces. As part of a six-person concrete crew, you will assist with a variety of projects, including sidewalks, gutters, traffic islands, and special projects.

Must maintain a reliable means of communication, such as a home or cellular telephone. Key Responsibilities: Assist with concrete construction and maintenance projects. Form, place, and finish concrete.

Construct and repair sidewalks. Construct and repair gutters. Assist with construction of traffic islands.

Support special construction and transportation projects. Operate job-specific equipment and vehicles. Operate single-axle and tandem-axle dump trucks as assigned.

Shovel, rake, and lute asphalt when needed. Assist with asphalt maintenance activities. Operate trucks and equipment during the City's snow and ice removal program.

Work safely in and around traffic and heavy equipment. Follow verbal and written instructions. Follow established safety procedures and work practices.

Maintain dependable attendance. Maintain a reliable means of communication. Perform physically demanding work, including standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, walking on uneven surfaces, shoveling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Participate in emergency operations and extended work schedules as needed. What Success Looks Like During Your First 90 Days, You Will: Become familiar with City Transportation procedures and safety expectations.

Learn how the concrete crew works together to complete projects. Develop foundational skills in concrete forming and finishing. Demonstrate safe work practices around traffic, equipment, and coworkers.

Build proficiency with hand tools and job-specific equipment. Establish dependable attendance and effective communication with your crew. Begin working toward your required Commercial Driver's Permit.

Within Your First Year, You Will: Demonstrate proficiency in basic concrete construction and finishing. Confidently contribute to sidewalk, gutter, traffic island, and special projects. Obtain and maintain your Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement.

Develop experience operating heavy equipment as opportunities arise. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively during routine, seasonal, and emergency operations. Continue building technical skills that position you for advancement within Transportation.

This job is Non-Exempt and subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Qualifications You Bring: Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED with outside construction work experience, such as pouring and finishing concrete, installing sidewalks, curb and gutter, traffic islands, or performing landscaping work. OR No High School Diploma/GED with 1+ years of outside construction work experience, such as pouring and finishing concrete, installing sidewalks, curb and gutter, traffic islands, or performing landscaping work. Valid Driver's License.

Must obtain a Commercial Driver's Permit within 30 days of employment. Must obtain and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement within 120 days of employment. Preferred Qualifications: Experience operating commercial vehicles or equipment.

Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License. Tanker Endorsement. Experience in traffic control set-up.
