SUMMARY:

Prepare testing specimens and perform analytical testing by following laboratory procedures.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Prepare samples for chemical analysis by using various methods such as cutting, grinding, drilling and polishing equipment.
  • Perform routine chemical analysis using the Leco Oxygen/Nitrogen, Leco Carbon/Sulfur, Panalytical XRF, and ARL Optical Emission Spectromter (OES) instruments including sample sectioning and surface preparation.
  • Perform VIM In-process analysis including all preparation.
  • Perform various mechanical powder testing such as Ro-Tap sieve analysis, Microtrac particle size distribution analysis and various density tests.
  • Log batches and record results using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Perform regular calibration/verification and maintenance to ensure proper equipment operation. Record all activity by completing log books and other required documentation.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication to contribute to a team-oriented work environment.
  • Adhere to and participate with company safety programs to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Perform work following all company quality standards and customer specifications to ensure a quality product is being produced including required documentation.

NON-ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Assist in routine laboratory operations and/or perform other routine laboratory work as directed. Perform normal mechanical servicing and minor repairs of testing equipment.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • All other duties as assigned or directed by management.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years Laboratory experience or Bachelor's degree plus 1 year of Laboratory experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills to operate web-based applications, Microsoft Office applications, and email.
  • Minimal travel between plant locations required as needed.
