Job description

The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. We are a true farm-to-table company with an integrated portfolio including food processing and food brands, phosphate mining, fertilizer manufacturing, farming, ranching and cattle production, and other enterprises related to agriculture.

Summary

This position is intended for all new hire drivers and/or entry level driver trainees. Responsible for safely transporting and delivering products or materials in liquid, loose, or packaged form, while abiding by all state and local traffic laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Always maintain conscientiousness for safety while driving, as well as performing all other duties
  • Must complete all Truck Driver Training and Development Programs
  • Full compliance with all FMCSA/DOT regulations and other Company policies and procedures as applicable
  • Haul, load, and handle products as assigned while maintaining efficiencies, such as fuel and best hauling and loading practices
  • Inspects truck for defects before, during, and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition
  • Obtains schedule of load times and locations for the day and drives truck to destination applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skills
  • Must be able to back up and maneuver in and around tight areas
  • Maintains electronic driver log according to DOT regulations
  • Regularly inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil, and water
  • Makes truck and/or trailer available for scheduled maintenance
Typical Education
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • CDL Truck Driver School
Relevant Experience
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience operating commercial vehicles under a CDL-A license is required.
  • Demonstrated experience operating commercial trucks in snow, ice, high winds, and other adverse weather conditions, with a strong record of safe driving.
  • Proven ability to install, remove, and maintain tire chains correctly and efficiently, including during roadside or lowvisibility situations.
Requirements
  • Must have a valid Class A CDL with proper endorsements  
  • Must have a current/valid DOT Medical Certification
  • Must be at least 21 years of age due to travel requirements, or 18 years of age to operate solely in intrastate capacity only.
  • Must meet DOT qualifications
  • Must accurately and timely complete Company and DOT required forms

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit in driver's seat of truck, while driving as well as while waiting.
  • The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, bend over or stoop. Must be able to hook up and unhook tractor and related lines to and from trailer.
  • The employee is required to climb and balance while getting in and out of the truck and while hooking and unhooking lines to and from the trailer.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions during all weather seasons of the year.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
