CARPENTER/SKILLED TRADES POSITION SUMMARY

The Authority is currently recruiting a Carpenter/Skilled Trades Professional to join Georgia World Congress Center. The Carpenter/Skilled Trades Professional is responsible for performing general building maintenance on walls, doorframes, floors and other structures using woodworking machinery, hand tools, and power tools. This position plays a vital role in the organization by building and repairing the facility safely, efficiently and within regulatory guidelines. Ideal candidates will share our values of authenticity, accountability, and teamwork while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.ย  ย  ย  ย 

CARPENTER/SKILLED TRADES PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is moderately exposed to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. The ability to lift 50 pounds or more may be required of this position. Daily shifts will endure various degrees of walking, standing, turning, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling, requiring a full range of body movements. This position may require work inside or outside of the building, as needed by events.

CARPENTER/SKILLED TRADES ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute general carpentry tasks to maintain the GWCC campus and facilities in excellence
  • Safely operate tools and equipment when performing facility maintenance or repairs
  • Monitor and secure the safekeeping of carpentry and maintenance equipment and supplies
  • Notify appropriate personnel of equipment and facilities needing repair or replacement
  • Initiate and complete work orders as required to maintain proper operation of equipment
  • Deliver safe and satisfactory services to internal and external customers or constituents
  • Initiate and complete work orders as required maintaining proper operation of equipment, and utilizing the CMMS
  • Input labor and material usage in work order system
  • Establish and enhance professional internal relationships
  • Notify supervisor of equipment and facilities requiring repairs or replacement
  • Participate in periodic departmental meetings as required
  • Promote productivity in accordance with departmental standards and ensure maximum efficiency is realized
  • Maintain accountability of work orders for assigned areas; discover efficient solutions
  • Actively participate in The Authority training programs as required.
  • Accurately document and complete administrative paperwork.
  • Comply with The Authority policies and procedures associated with such programs as risk management, safety, and emergency management.ย 
  • Maintain an ethical and professional image when interacting with internal and external customers in to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.ย 

CARPENTER/SKILLED TRADES SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

CARPENTER/SKILLED TRADES KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

  • Ability to perform intensive labor assignments and job responsibilities
  • Ability to handle up to 50lbs or more
  • Ability to work an irregular work schedule including weekends, holidays, and nights as required to perform duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, prioritize tasks, and manage workload under pressure and with limited resources
  • Ability to complete installation of event set up duties according to standard operating procedures
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Must observe safe work methods and make appropriate use of related safety equipment
  • High degree of integrity, compliance, and self-awareness
  • Thoroughness in task approach, follow-up & completion
  • Relational skills
  • Ability to professionally interact with internal and external customers of The Authority
  • Convention center industry knowledge a plus

CARPENTER/SKILLED TRADES EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum high school educationย or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of oneย (1) yearsโ€™ experience as a commercial carpenter
  • Supervisory experience as a carpenter foreman in the field of commercial construction or equivalent preferred
  • Experience with a commercial facility that demonstrates operational and project planning knowledge a plus
