Job description

Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor, the incumbent will be required to work weekends, holidays and odd hours; and perform the following duties: Assist with operation of hunter check station; answer public inquiries about hunt program regulations and procedures, check hunters in and out of the area, issue permits, collect data on hunter take and make reports, maintain all public use facilities and informational data.
Perform routine cleanup of litter in and around the check station area; maintain and clean all facilities (check stations and restrooms). Assist with maintenance and minor repairs to the hunter checking station, posting and maintenance of public hunt program signs, and taking down signs after hunting season. Assist in picking up wildlife carcasses during mortality and morbidity events.
Assist with repair and routine maintenance on wheel tractors, farming implements such as discs and rotary mowers, light trucks, and agricultural pumps; installing water control structures and removing old structures. Assist with ground preparation, planting, and irrigating of various wildlife food crops and native plants.
Assist with applying herbicides to control weeds around water controls, agricultural pumps, electrical boxes, buildings and other facilities; properly apply herbicides to control invasive plants; operate, service and maintain all-terrain vehicles and gasoline-powered spray rigs; maintain accurate pesticide application records and other related documents.

The Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Aid classification is a non-testing classification.
• Applicants who receive public assistance under the CalWORKs program shall be given hiring priority consideration as provided in Government Code, Section 19063.
• Applicants who receive public assistance need to identify themselves as CalWORKs recipients in the comments section of the STD 678, Examination/Employment Application.
• Applicants must submit verification of CalWORKs eligibility, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) eligibility or a copy of the most recent aid check stub.
• Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program. If CalWORKs verification is not submitted with the application, it will not be processed as CalWORKs eligible.
• Participation by a public assistance recipient is voluntary and in no event shall any person be subject to sanctions, through loss of benefits or eligibility, for not applying for, accepting, or continuing in a seasonal or entry level non-testing classification opening.

Working Conditions
This position will work outdoors in all types of weather (hot, cold, and wet), work weekends, and handle game birds. This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform identifying the employee as CDFW staff on certain occasions. Must possess and maintain a current valid Driver's License for the operation of vehicles.
