Health Physicist 1 - $96,600 - $158.000
The Radiation Protection Division has a need for three operational Health Physicists (HP) supporting LANL programs and projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in the Technical Area (TA) 55 deployed Health Physics group. Facilities supported by this group include TA-55 and associated support facilities. Reporting to the RP-TA55 Radiation Protection Manager, the operational HP is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the Radiation Protection (RP) program while supporting work execution. Executing all manners of operational health physics/radiation safety under the direction of experienced Health Physicist(s), the HP will be able to perform most matters of operational health physics/radiation safety. Responsibilities will include: investigating radiation hazards in the full range of RP assignments; assisting in developing and implementing metrics to measure the effectiveness of the operational RP Program; assisting in developing, implementing and evaluating administrative and engineering controls to protect Laboratory personnel from radiological hazards; assisting in developing and implementing monitoring programs to measure the buildup of radioactive materials in the workplace; measuring the integrity of radiological engineering controls; and help ensure that RP concepts and policies are incorporated into Laboratory designs to protect workers, the public and the environment.
Health Physicist 2 - $106,400 - $176,000
In addition to experience needed for Health Physicist 1, candidates will provide mentoring to junior health physicists and RCT's in the performance of their work assignments. Apply experience in health physics to evaluate work activities and ensure adequate radiological controls are in place with minimal oversight from RP Manager. Independently develop and review radiological work permits for technical accuracy. Be able to interface with facility operations managers and a diverse group of trades in order to aid in operational readiness by addressing worker concerns in a timely and professional manner. Aid RP manager in the oversight of high-risk radiological evolutions to ensure work is accomplished in a safe and compliant manner.
