Entry Level Augmented Reality Developer information

What is the difference between Entry Level Augmented Reality Developer vs Entry Level Virtual Reality Developer?

AspectEntry Level Augmented Reality DeveloperEntry Level Virtual Reality Developer
Required SkillsProficiency in AR SDKs (ARKit, ARCore), programming (C#, C++, Java), 3D modelingVR SDKs (Unity, Unreal Engine), programming (C#, C++), 3D modeling
Work EnvironmentMobile devices, AR glasses, outdoor/indoor AR applicationsVR headsets, simulation labs, immersive environments
Industry UsageRetail, education, healthcare, gamingGaming, training, simulation, education

Both roles involve developing immersive experiences but differ mainly in the platforms and devices used. AR developers focus on overlaying digital content onto the real world, while VR developers create fully immersive virtual environments. Skills overlap in programming and 3D modeling, but the hardware and application contexts vary significantly.

What are some common challenges faced by entry-level augmented reality developers when working on team projects?

Entry-level augmented reality (AR) developers often encounter challenges such as integrating AR features smoothly with existing applications, managing cross-platform compatibility, and keeping up with rapid advancements in AR technologies. Collaboration with designers, UI/UX specialists, and senior developers is essential to ensure a seamless user experience. It's also common to face a learning curve with AR frameworks and development tools, but active communication and seeking mentorship within the team can help overcome these obstacles and foster professional growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Augmented Reality Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Augmented Reality Developer, you need a solid understanding of programming languages (such as C#, C++, or JavaScript), basic 3D modeling concepts, and a relevant degree or coursework in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with AR development platforms like Unity or Unreal Engine and experience using AR SDKs such as ARCore or ARKit are typically required. Creativity, problem-solving, and strong communication skills help you collaborate effectively and innovate in user-centric design. These abilities ensure the effective creation and deployment of engaging AR experiences that meet both technical and user needs.

What is an entry level augmented reality developer?

An entry level augmented reality (AR) developer is a professional who creates interactive digital experiences that blend virtual objects with the real world, using AR technologies. Typically, they work with AR development platforms and programming languages to build applications for mobile devices, smart glasses, or other AR hardware. Entry level AR developers often assist in designing, coding, testing, and debugging basic AR features under the guidance of more experienced developers. This role usually requires a foundational knowledge of programming and an understanding of 3D graphics or game engines.

Job description

Job Summary:
IntelePeer is a company that delivers rapidly deployable communications solutions, focusing on enhancing customer communications experiences through their Conversational AI Platform. The AI Agent Engineer role involves building, configuring, testing, and deploying AI voice agents for healthcare customers, ensuring reliable performance and seamless integration with data systems.
Responsibilities:
• Build AI voice agent solutions within the IntelePeer SmartFlow platform — configuring conversational flows, NLU intent models, business rule logic, slot-filling patterns, and multi-turn dialogue structures from approved design specifications.
• Translate workflow design documents produced by the Healthcare AI Workflow Solutions team into precise, testable agent configurations that faithfully implement the intended customer experience.
• Identify and resolve ambiguities in design specifications before build begins — escalating design gaps to the Director and Workflow Solutions team rather than making undocumented interpretation calls independently.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate build velocity, generate configuration drafts, and identify coverage gaps in conversational flows.
• Build and maintain real-time integrations between AI agents and healthcare data systems — including EHR/PM platforms such as Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, Epic, and athenahealth — enabling agents to retrieve and act on live patient and scheduling data.
• Implement API integrations following IntelePeer's standards for authentication, error handling, retry logic, and data transformation — ensuring integrations are robust, well-documented, and maintainable.
• Test integrations under realistic data conditions including edge cases, missing data states, API latency, and failure scenarios — validating that fallback behavior is safe and patient-appropriate.
• Conduct thorough self-testing of all AI agent builds before advancing to formal QA — including functional testing of all defined flows, boundary condition testing, integration validation, and end-to-end scenario testing.
• Collaborate with QA Engineers to support test case development, reproduce defects, and validate fixes — treating QA feedback as a quality partnership rather than a handoff.
• Maintain accurate build documentation — including configuration change logs, integration specs, and known limitations — so QA and Customer Success always have a current picture of what was built and why.
• Actively contribute to the team's testing frameworks and best practices, helping improve the efficiency and coverage of quality processes over time.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelors in computer science or relevant industry
• Prior experience in healthcare technology, with working knowledge of EHR/PM platforms and an understanding of HIPAA data handling requirements.
• Familiarity with IntelePeer SmartFlow, Genesys, Amazon Connect, Nuance, or similar CCaaS/CPaaS platforms.
• Hands-on experience with LLM-based agent development, including prompt engineering and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) patterns in production contexts.
• Experience with voice-specific technical concepts including ASR/TTS configuration, telephony integration, DTMF handling, and latency-sensitive response tuning.
• Background contributing to team engineering standards — testing frameworks, build checklists, documentation templates, or reusable component libraries.
Company:
IntelePeer develops a CPaaS-based cloud platform to offer IP communications and SIP trunking services for enterprises. Founded in 2003, the company is headquartered in Dania, USA, with a team of 201-500 employees. The company is currently Growth Stage.
