Job description

Our Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) team is looking for an innovative and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Associate Software Engineer with an emphasis on Linux backend development.
About Our Team
We're a team of professional software engineers dedicated to making electric power safer, more reliable, and more economical through automation, control, and monitoring. Our group is looking for someone who is excited about backend development on Linux, using C, C++, C#, and Bash, and who is interested in solving real world problems in the growing market of electric power.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work from high-level requirements and customer commitments to deliver innovative solutions and delight our customers.
  • Work cooperatively with a team of like-minded individuals.
  • Participate in reviewing specifications, designs, code, and tests in tight collaboration with other team members.
  • Understand hardware and software interactions; collaborate with firmware and power system engineers.
  • Participate in project planning and estimation.
  • Follow and apply SEL Values and Principles of Operation.
  • Understand. Create. Simplify.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented principles and concepts.
  • Knowledge and experience in object-oriented languages (e.g., C++, C#, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience in Linux.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL.
  • Negative drug test result(s).

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-3 years software development experience.
  • Familiarity with Git, CMake, and Docker.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Jenkins.

Pay Range Data - $84,200 - $112,300 annually
We set starting pay based on job-related factors such as your experience, training, knowledge, and skills. We are looking to fill this position at the Associate level, and we welcome applicants with a range of experience. Depending on your background, we may consider you for a different level, with compensation aligned accordingly.
Associate Software Engineer: $84,200 - $112,300
Software Engineer: $97,700 - $130,300
Lead Software Engineer: $115,300 - $153,700
