Job Description:
The Associate Engineer supports Powerplant Engineering by providing engineering expertise that supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Southwest's fleet. They'll develop engine maintenance work instructions, provide technical evaluations, and support specialized engine and component repairs, modifications, and troubleshooting activities. They'll partner with Technical Operations Teams to interpret maintenance requirements and provide engineering justification for approved deviations in accordance with established standards and procedures. The Associate Engineer leverages strong analytical and problem-solving skills to support maintenance programs, improve reliability, and contribute to the continued success of Southwest's Technical Operations organization.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and process manufacturer's service documents (Service Bulletins, Service Letters, etc.) and regulatory requirements (Airworthiness Directives, Notice of Proposed Rule Making, Code of Federal Regulations, etc.)
  • Participate in the development and substantiation of in-house repairs and modifications for implementation into the SWA maintenance program
  • Collaborate with other departments such as Planning, Supply Chain, Quality, Production and other Stakeholders for assigned projects to develop project implementation plans
  • Participate in troubleshooting and resolution of in-service issues
  • Participate in activities related to various types of cost/benefit analysis
  • Develop Engineering documentation to support resolution of in-service issues
  • Participate in activities related to OEM, Supplemental Type Certificate Holder, and PMA products
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various airline support services
  • Knowledge of design techniques and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models
  • Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Ability to collect, organize, visualize, and assimilate data, including turning raw data into meaningful information, using data-oriented programs and visualization software
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, however it does not necessarily involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem
  • Ability to communicate effectively via telephone as well as within group settings
  • Ability to work well with scheduled timelines

Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelor of Science in an ABET accredited course of study in Engineering
    • (May have anticipated graduation date within 6 months from posting date)

Experience
  • Entry level experience, developing skills and knowledge in:
    • Airline/OEM/MRO Engineering

Licensing/Certification
  • N/A

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time

Pay & Benefits:
  • Competitive market salary from $81,200.00 per year to $90,200.00 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
