Make an Impact Through Communication & Student Support

At TX-STAR Speech Language Services, we partner with school districts across Texas to provide high-quality special education support services that help students succeed both academically and socially. We are currently hiring a full-time American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter for a school-based opportunity in the Houston area.

This role is ideal for professionals who are passionate about accessibility, communication, and supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students within educational settings.

What You'll Do

As an ASL Interpreter, you will facilitate communication between students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and their teachers, peers, and school staff to help ensure equal access to instruction and school activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ASL interpretation services in classroom and school settings
  • Interpret spoken communication into American Sign Language and vice versa
  • Support students during instructional activities, meetings, testing, and school events
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and campus personnel
  • Assist in promoting student independence and self-advocacy
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with school and FERPA guidelines
  • Support communication access in ARD/IEP meetings as needed
  • Adapt to a variety of classroom environments and student communication needs
  • Maintain accurate service documentation and schedules

What You'll Need

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid Texas BEI certification or RID certification preferred
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within school teams
  • Professionalism, reliability, and flexibility in educational settings
  • Prior school-based interpreting experience preferred
  • Experience working with children or adolescents is a plus

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Full-time, school-based position in the Houston area
  • Monday through Friday school schedule
