Project Engineer
Avionics Experience

The Avionics Project Engineer will:
  • Provide design and test support in various aspects of Avionics development in support of the Robotics Systems NASA Engineering Division.
  • Provide support in spacecraft fault management systems.
  • Support design team in Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE) parts selection, connector selection, and harness design.
  • Support Systems Engineers in maintaining and ensuring baseline test configuration and document any configuration changes.
  • Submit purchase requisitions, follow up through procurement process, and maintain records of parts inventory.
  • Generate and maintain design documentation, such as EEE parts derating assessments, radiation assessments, parts screening analyses, and Bills of Material (BOM).
  • Work with design engineers to generate procedures for and perform analysis and verification testing of flight hardware such as TVAC, Vibration, EMI, and radiation tests, in addition to EEE parts end of life (EOL) analysis.
  • Maintain and ensure baseline test configuration and document any configuration changes. Generate essential paperwork and documents for tasks assigned, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP), as needed.
  • Work in a team environment, and report to project manager for technical support, task assignment, and processes.
  • Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting to investigate mechanical and electrical failures within hardware or test support hardware.
  • Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions.
  • Work with electrical technicians to build and test designed systems.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications
Requisition Qualifications:
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware.
  • Experience with System Engineering and Formal Engineering Methods (NASA STD 8070 - Space Flight System Design and Environmental Test) or Equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of connector selection and wiring schemes for control systems.
  • Experience with test hardware such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, logic analyzers, function generators, electronic load banks, power supplies, power analyzers.
  • Prior experience with electrical schematic entry and printed circuit board layout.
  • Self-motivated, team player with adaptability to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required.
  • Ability to operate in an electronics lab and perform necessary troubleshooting tasks.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.
  • Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical/electrical systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 4Office products.
  • Experience with Atlassian Collaboration Documentation Tools and JIRA Issue Tracking Tools.
Requisition Preferences:
  • Experience operating robots, particularly manipulators.
  • Familiarity with common hand tools and proficiency using them to perform assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting on electrical systems.
  • Prior experience with hardware anomaly troubleshooting and failure analysis.
  • Experience with procedure development.
  • Co-op or Intern experience at KSC/JPL/JSC or other NASA agency.
  • Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle process.
  • Prior experience with cable design.
  • Prior experience in design and test of analog instrumentation systems.
  • Prior experience in design and test of power supply and conditioning systems.
  • Prior experience working and coordinating requirements with third parties/outside vendors.
  • Familiarity with NASA Quality operational procedures and requirements.
