We are seeking a motivated, Structural EI (Entry-Level) to join our Raleigh Structural Group. This position is ideal for a recent graduate who is looking to develop a career in structural engineering while gaining experience across a diverse range of projects. The Structural EI will work as part of multidisciplinary project teams and assist with the structural design of new facilities, alterations, renovations, and rehabilitation projects from conceptual phase through construction. Projects may include water and wastewater, municipal, power, process, industrial, and manufacturing facilities. The successful candidate will work under the direction of experienced structural engineers while developing skills in structural analysis and design, construction documentation, field investigation, technical report writing, and construction-phase services. The position provides an opportunity to develop a broad technical foundation while working toward professional licensure.

DURING YOUR WORK-DAY, YOU WILL:

  • Assist with the structural analysis and design of structural systems, including reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, and other structural materials, using fundamental engineering principles and applicable design codes and standards.
  • Assist with the development, modification, and review of structural drawings and details, including coordination of structural work with other project disciplines.
  • Support project teams through the development of design concepts, engineering calculations, construction documents, reports, and final design deliverables.
  • Participate in field investigations, condition assessments, and construction site visits.
  • Assist with the preparation of engineering reports, feasibility studies, technical memoranda, condition assessments, and other technical documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation of Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Construction Cost (EOPCC) estimates and other project cost information.
  • Assist with the review of shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and other contractor documents.
  • Research and apply applicable codes, standards, materials, and engineering practices in support of project design and technical evaluations.
  • Work collaboratively with senior engineers, project managers, designers, and other disciplines while developing technical, communication, and project management skills.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 0-2 years of structural engineering experience; recent graduates, or soon to be, are encouraged to apply.
  • Fundamental understanding of structural engineering principles, including statics, mechanics of materials, and structural analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of structural design principles and applicable design codes and standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project and construction sites as required.

  • Familiarity with Revit and/or AutoCAD.
  • Exposure to structural design codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASCE, IBC, etc.
