Counselor/High SchoolJOB STATUS: OPEN POSTING DATE: 03/03/2026 POSTING NUMBER: 00052074 LOCATION: Admin Guidance & Counseling - 875 POSITION TITLE: Counselor/High School
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Implement the district's comprehensive school counseling program plan to address the unique needs of each student through targeted guidance instruction, personalized advising, and responsive counseling services.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Promote positive self-image in students.
  2. Provide orientation sessions for parents.
  3. Provide college day/night, career day/night, and financial aid workshops.
  4. Coordinate and/or delivers required legislative awareness activities such as suicide prevention, bullying prevention, digital citizenship, fentanyl poisoning, human trafficking, teen dating violence and other related student safety initiatives.
  5. Share information concerning programs available at the campus and throughout the district (e.g., Credit by Examination, Alternative School, Career and Technology Programs) with students.
  6. Conduct individual and group counseling.
  7. Confer with students, parents, and teachers when needed.
  8. Conduct individual personal/academic student and parent conferences.
  9. Assist in the referral process and educational placement of students with special needs.
  10. Serve as a resource for students, parents and staff members to access community resources.
  11. Play an active role in dropout prevention.
  12. Assist individual students in demonstrating self-confidence in achieving educational goals.
  13. Place students in appropriate instructional programs.
  14. Advise students of multiple academic opportunities.
  15. Advise students in preparing/updating their Personal Graduation Plan (PGP), four-year high school plan.
  16. Coordinate the school transition activities (Gr. 8 - Post-High School).
  17. Maintain student academic credit information.
  18. Maintain students' high school Personal Graduation Plan (PGP) in accordance with state law.
  19. Completes student college and scholarship application information accurately and in a timely manner.
  20. In conjunction with the campus Lead School Counselor, plan, implement, and evaluate a campus-level Comprehensive School Counseling Program to serve all students through guidance curriculum, responsive services, individual planning and system support.
  21. Consult with the district school counseling team as needed.
  22. Adhere to all required timelines and established procedures.
  23. Meet deadlines as established by the Technology and PEIMS departments for scheduling and grade reporting.
  24. Maintain and communicate a current calendar of school counseling activities.
  25. Transcribe records of student transferring into the school.
  26. Initiate procedure to analyze and modify, as necessary, performance of duties based on self-analysis, feedback from students and interactions with colleagues.
  27. Maintain and improve professional competence through ongoing learning, including reading, coursework, and participation in professional development activities.
  28. Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationships.
  29. Cooperate with and supports faculty and staff.
  30. Demonstrate self-control and exhibits overall positive approach.
  31. Perform other duties as assigned.
  32. Maintain regular attendance.
  33. Maintain confidentially.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting or with school-aged children
  • Experience supporting students/school-aged children in crisis situations
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Master's degree
  • Professional school counselor's certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of school counseling procedures, student assessment, career development, and the college admissions and financial aid application process
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Serve students in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) school counseling standards
  • Knowledge of and experience in the interpretation of various assessment instruments
  • Knowledgeable about secondary academic curriculum
  • Knowledge/awareness of how to access community resources
