Aerospace Engineering (Aerospace Design and Systems Engineering), Assistant Professor

Job no: 559195 Work type: Instructional Faculty โ€“ Tenured/Tenure-Track Location: Pomona Salary Range: $107,312 - 111,312

Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for a tenureโ€‘track assistant professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering. The position begins in Fall 2027.

Responsibilities
  • Teach lowerโ€‘division, upperโ€‘division, and graduate courses in aerospace engineering, including aircraft and spacecraft design, systems engineering, and other designโ€‘oriented areas.
  • Support the departmentโ€™s seniorโ€‘design sequence and projectโ€‘based learning activities.
  • Develop new curriculum and learning experiences in aerospace design and systems engineering.
  • Establish an active scholarly program, pursue external funding, and publish peerโ€‘reviewed research.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students and participate in department, college, and university service.
Qualifications
  • Minimum required qualifications:
    • Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or a closely aligned field, conferred before start date.
  • Preferred/desired qualifications:
    • Academic experience or strength in Aerospace Design and Systems Engineering, with particular interest in aircraft design, complex aerospace systems, systems engineering, and modelโ€‘based systems engineering (MBSE).
    • Demonstrated ability or potential for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and developing designโ€‘oriented curriculum.
    • Demonstrated ability or potential for authoring peerโ€‘reviewed publications, securing external funding, and mentoring student research.
    • Industrial, government, or professional experience in aerospace engineering, aircraft design, systems engineering, or related areas.
    • A bachelorโ€™s degree in Aerospace Engineering from an ABETโ€‘accredited program.

  • For finalists: official transcripts, three reference letters, and a presentation of scholarly work and a teaching demonstration.
