Job Summary
The Accountant II performs professional accounting work in support of the university's auxiliary operations. This position is responsible for responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and reconciling multiple general ledger accounts; assists accounting staff with reporting and analysis, and provides guidance to campus departments. The Accountant II applies intermediate to advanced accounting principles and exercises independent judgment while supporting accurate and timely financial reporting.
NOTE: In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not offer sponsorship for employment visas.
Responsibilities
  • Complete monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and review transactions to ensure compliance with university policies, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and applicable regulations.
  • Analyze financial data and provide detailed reports and variance explanations to management.
  • Process and review journal entries, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to accounting standards.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes for assigned accounts.
  • Utilize ERP & Banner Finance system to extract data, perform reconciliations, and ensure data integrity.
  • Collaborate with departments to resolve discrepancies and provide financial guidance.
  • Assist with process improvements and system enhancements related to financial operations.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years of professional accounting experience.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel for data analysis
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education accounting or fund accounting.
  • Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems used in higher education (e.g., PeopleSoft, Banner, Workday).
Proposed Salary
The proposed salary range for this position is $48,500.00 to $51,000.00 annually.
