Job description

Cost Accounting Senior Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accounting Senior Specialist to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cost accounting and possess excellent analytical skills. As a Cost Accounting Senior Specialist, you will be responsible for analyzing and controlling costs, assisting in budgeting, and forecasting processes, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. Your expertise will contribute to effective cost management and overall financial health of the organization.

Department: Finance

Reports To: Cost Accounting Assistant Manager

Responsibilities for a Cost Accounting Specialist:

  • Analyzes the cost structure of a business and extracts actionable information that can improve the profitability of a business.
  • Develops and maintains the cost accounting system, documents, and records of the organization.
  • Reviews financial records, researches the market rate for key business costs, and adjusts the company ledger to accurately reflect balance sheets.
  • Prepares and completes internal cost audits and complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements.
  • Analyze Transportation Profit/Loss
  • Review purchase orders to make sure that they are accurate. 
  • Report and Enter Investments in accounting system                                
  • Manages financial budgets by creating budgets and monitoring actual expenses to ensure compliance with the budget and making adjustments as needed.
  • Monitor and report on cost variances, identifying potential areas for cost reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for a Cost Accounting Specialist:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Preferred 3 years of experience in cost accounting or a related role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Understanding of cost accounting principles and practices.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CMA, CPA) is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


This role routinely uses standard office equipment, including a laptop computer and cell phone. The estimated base salary range for the Cost Accounting Senior Specialist is $69,000-$73,000. The salary range information provided is in accordance with applicable state and local laws regarding salary transparency that are currently in effect and may be implemented in the future. The range represents a good faith estimate of the range that GLOVIS EA reasonably expects to pay for this job at the time of the job posting. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to specific skills or certifications, years of experience, market changes, and required travel.
