Job description

Luxury Finance (including Sotheby's International Realty and Corcoran) is seeking an entry level Staff Accountant to join the Finance team located in New York City, NY. The ideal candidate is proactive, self-motivated, and driven-someone who consistently sets a high standard for their own performance and deliverables. This individual will help enhance operational efficiency while upholding a strong control environment. In this role, the Staff Accountant will report to an Accounting Manager under the Luxury Controller team and collaborate regularly with managers across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with various departments/stakeholders to obtain the necessary support required to prepare and book journal entries timely

  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and analysis to share with stakeholders for key accounts

  • Responsible for financial close activities including month-end journal entries and recording accruals as appropriate

  • Process Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and cash receipts

  • Design, recommend, and implement modifications of accounting methods, procedures, forms, and records

  • Respond to a variety of ad hoc initiatives, analysis, special projects as they arise

  • Maintain strong communication with personnel across departments and outside the company, including company executives and clients to maintain the proper processing, reporting and flow of information

  • Analyze Income Statement and Balance Sheet to be able to "speak to" the numbers reported

  • Prepare ad-hoc reports and analysis as needed

  • Assist with special projects as needed

  • Assist team members as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Accounting preferred

  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred

  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting & reporting

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and abstract reasoning skills

  • Possess strong task management, attention to detail, and prioritization skills

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite with advanced Excel skills

  • Ability to multi-task and work independently with limited supervision

  • Ability to follow through on all assigned tasks and take on additional work as needed
