Job Summary
  • Performs patient registration and lab test order entry for both outpatient and outreach patient specimens.
  • Provides clerical and receptionist support. 
  • Acts as a resource for Laboratory information.
  • Trains Outreach Registrar Clerks and Lab Assistants.
  • Provides Patient Order/Registration Audit Support.
  • Obtains routine and special collection blood specimens following established procedures, established time frames, and safety requirements.    
  • Labels, receives, and distributes specimens in the laboratory.
  • Ensures quality control, maintenance, and performance improvement indicators are documented

Qualifications

Education

  • High school education or equivalent GED. 
  • Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.

Experience

  • Minimum of one year clerical experience required in a medical/patient care setting.
  • One year of phlebotomy experience or 1 year of experience in a medical field providing patient care (such as a nursing assistant, medical assistant, nurse technician, etc.) which included drawing blood.
  • Experience in supply inventory control preferred.
  • Experience with hospital patient billing, physician office billing or lab billing preferred. 
  • Computer data entry experience preferred. 
  • Experience with word processing and spreadsheet software preferred.
  • Clinical lab experience preferred. 
  • Patient registration experience preferred.
