Job Summary

The candidate's primary assignment will be enterprise-wide compliance and program implementation support for power generating station continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS). Responsibilities will also include compliance support for fleet-wide stack emission tests. The individual will exhibit expert or advanced level proficiency that enables them to serve as a subject matter expert. Previous experience and proficiency with 40 CFR Part 60 and Part 75 regulatory requirements, test methods, advanced data management (e.g., SQL, Visual Basics), and data acquisition/EPA reporting software is a must. Electric utility and permitting experience is preferred.

Job Description

What you'll do:

  • Coordinate and perform compliance and support activities such facility-level permit andPart 75 interpretation, stack testing, quality assurance reviews, program improvements, training sessions, federal reporting, and compliance audits.
  • Provide facility-level compliance support for CEMS and data acquisition and handling systems (DAHS), including troubleshooting, complex/advanced data analysis, and resolution of issues.
  • Serve as an internal expert resource for program regulations, CEMS monitoring and stack test methods and procedures
  • Develops, recommends, and implements plans to address complex compliance problems that require the input and effort of a wide array of entities both internal and external to the company.
  • Ability to swiftly prioritize tasks to ensure responsiveness and support to stakeholders, which may be on a time-sensitive or expedited schedule.
  • Identify, resolve, and initiate solutions to complex problems that are unique to the company and require extensive specialized knowledge, or the development of knowledge and techniques.
  • Lead, facilitate and coordinate work activities of others within work group, team, department, or those external to the company (e.g., consultants) and assumes the role of project manager to perform compliance work.
  • Proficient in written and verbal communication and leads in the preparation and presentation of the most complex technical subjects, clearly, concisely, and persuasively, bringing in ancillary issues before senior management, professional organizations, regulatory bodies, etc.
  • Identifies and initiates proactive comments or changes to regulations and standards, in the interests of the company, and engages multiple stakeholders in the process, networking throughout AEP, other companies, professional organizations, and regulatory agencies.

What we're looking for:

Environmental Engineer Senior SG8

  • Has typically acquired 6 or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*,
  • Or 4 years of related engineering experience along with a master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET*; Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is encouraged and preferred.

*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Acceptable alternative:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited bachelor's program.
  • ** Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.

Environmental Specialist Principal SG8

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree (environmental science, biology, chemistry, natural resources, or ecology or related field)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of environmental experience.

Environmental Engineer Principal SG9

  • Has typically acquired 8 or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*,
  • Or 6 years of related engineering experience along with a master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET*; Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is required for this position unless approval to waive this requirement is given by the organization's EVP.

In addition:

  • *ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
  • Acceptable alternative is

  • Individuals with a Maste's or Doctorate degree may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
  • Registration in recognized associations and organizations for environmental professionals is encouraged.
  • 40 hours per week with some overtime required.
  • Periodic travel required.
