Job Description
This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Wetland Delineator/Environmental Scientist for our Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, Akron, Toledo or other regional offices.
Your Impact
  • Assist with planning and execution of wetland delineations and stream assessments for linear and renewable energy projects in the Midwest.
  • Perform duties as a wetland field team lead in accordance with current USACE 1987 Manual and Regional Supplements. Potential to support other natural resource surveys as needed.
  • Understand how to operate a GPS unit to collect field data, map habitat types and sensitive resources.
  • Support preparation of field equipment, mapping, Safe Work Plans, and logistics for field work.
  • Perform data entry, data analysis and report compilation.
  • Assist with various governmental agency coordination (USFWS, USACE, EPA, etc.).
  • Assist and lead preparation of wetland delineation reports, and permit applications for federal and/or state environmental permits, including USACE Section 404 and Section 10, state wetland and stream permits, NPDES, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service coordination, and state natural heritage agency coordination.
  • Field projects may require long hours and/or be physically demanding, and may require being on foot 10-12 hours per day traversing various topography while carrying equipment in varying weather conditions.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience conducting wetland delineations and stream assessments, preferably in Ohio and surrounding states.
  • Bachelors of Arts or Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology or related field.
  • Familiarity with USACE wetland data forms, ORAM wetland data forms, and QHEI and HHEI stream data forms.
  • Experience with GPS field data collection.
  • Plant identification of Midwest vegetation.
  • Willingness to learn and implement various field methods for collection of data.
  • Proficient with data management, organization and MS Office Suite.
  • Attention and commitment to timely completion of high-quality work, often independently motivated.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet fast-paced demands.
  • Willing to work long hours in the field for possibly two weeks out of the month or more during peak periods of fieldwork.
  • High level of motivation and an ability to work as a team lead or independently as part of various teams.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as a team lead for a wetland delineation crew and/or familiar with the typical responsibilities of the field lead role.
  • Experience with use of ArcGIS, ArcOnline, ArcCollector and ArcGIS Enterprise, Trimble GPS units and Terrasync software.
  • Strong technical writing skills, clear communicator, ability to work as part of multidisciplinary teams, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of USACE 401/404 permitting, Section 10 permitting and mitigation requirements.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $78,000 - $92,000
