Entry Developer information

What is an entry developer?

Entry developers, sometimes called junior developers, are professionals who are at the beginning of their software development careers. They typically have basic programming skills and work under the guidance of more experienced developers to build, test, and maintain software applications. Entry developers often focus on learning new technologies, writing simple code, fixing bugs, and gradually taking on more complex tasks as they gain experience. Their role is essential for gaining practical knowledge and growing into more advanced development positions.

What types of projects and tasks can an entry developer typically expect to work on in their first year?

As an Entry Developer, you’ll often start by handling smaller, well-defined tasks such as fixing bugs, writing unit tests, or implementing simple features under the guidance of more experienced developers. You’ll likely participate in code reviews, attend daily stand-up meetings, and collaborate closely with team members to learn best practices and company coding standards. Over time, as you gain confidence and show proficiency, you may be given more complex assignments and opportunities to contribute to larger projects, setting a strong foundation for career growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Developer, you need foundational programming skills, understanding of software development principles, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with coding languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript, as well as version control systems like Git, is often required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and willingness to learn new technologies set successful candidates apart. These skills are crucial for delivering reliable code, collaborating effectively with teams, and adapting to evolving project requirements.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Full-Stack Developer to join one of our development squads and help build new features for the 1VALET smart-building platform. This role is hands-on and product-focused, working across the stack - from Angular front-end experiences to .NET backend services - and includes integrations with hardware and third-party vendors (smart locks, entry systems, building systems, etc.). You'll collaborate closely with Product, Hardware, QA, and Operations teams to deliver scalable, reliable features used in live residential and commercial buildings.

What You'll Do

Design, build, and maintain end-to-end features across front-end, backend, and data layers

Develop and optimize Angular front-end applications with a focus on performance and usability

Build .NET (C#) backend services, APIs, and integrations

Work with MS/Azure SQL for data modelling, querying, and performance optimization

Use Elasticsearch for search, analytics, and log-driven features

Implement and maintain hardware and vendor integrations (IoT devices, access control systems, third-party APIs)

Collaborate with Product Managers to translate requirements into technical solutions

Work with QA to ensure high quality through testing, debugging, and production support

Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to technical direction

Support and improve existing systems while helping shape new platform capabilities

Strong hands-on experience with:

.NET / C# (Web APIs, services)

MS/Azure SQL (schema design, performance tuning)

Experience designing and consuming REST APIs

Exposure to hardware / IoT integrations or complex third-party system integrations (strong asset)

Solid understanding of scalable, distributed systems

Experience working in Agile / squad-based teams

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment

Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Replit AI, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to improve productivity, code quality, debugging, or prototyping

Nice to Have

Experience with cloud platforms (Azure)

Knowledge of message queues, event-driven systems, or real-time data flows

Prior experience in PropTech, IoT, or building management systems

Experience supporting production systems used by real customers in the field

Why Join 1VALET
