These roles typically require basic knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript and may involve tasks like writing simple code, debugging, or assisting with software testing. Entry-level coding jobs are ideal for recent graduates or career changers looking to gain hands-on experience in the tech industry. They often provide on-the-job training and opportunities to learn from more experienced developers. With time and experience, entry-level coders can advance to more complex programming or software engineering roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry-level coder?

To thrive as an Entry-Level Coder, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, problem-solving abilities, and familiarity with at least one programming language, often demonstrated through a relevant degree or coding bootcamp. Experience with code editors, version control systems like Git, and debugging tools is typically required. Attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and effective communication help you collaborate and grow in fast-paced development environments. These skills are crucial for producing reliable code, integrating smoothly with teams, and adapting to evolving technical requirements.

What are some common challenges faced by entry-level coders, and how can they overcome them?

Entry-level coders often encounter challenges such as debugging unfamiliar code, adapting to team coding standards, and learning new technologies quickly. To overcome these obstacles, it's helpful to ask questions early and often, utilize code review feedback, and take advantage of onboarding resources or mentorship programs. Staying organized, breaking tasks into manageable steps, and building strong communication with more experienced team members can also ease the transition and promote growth.

Job description

Position Summary

The AI Development Technician serves as an operational bridge between product requirements and AI-assisted code generation. This role is responsible for translating user stories from Azure DevOps into structured prompts for Claude Code, facilitating the initial generation of code components under the supervision of senior development staff. The position requires attention to detail, the ability to follow established procedures, and clear written communication skills—no prior programming experience is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Retrieve and review user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications from Azure DevOps

• Translate requirements into clear, structured prompts following established templates and guidelines

• Execute prompts in Claude Code and capture generated output

• Document prompt iterations, outputs, and any anomalies encountered during sessions

• Organize and submit generated code to senior developers for review and validation

• Maintain accurate records of work completed, including time tracking against user stories

• Flag ambiguous or incomplete requirements to the supervising developer before proceeding

• Follow security protocols for handling code and system access

• Participate in training sessions to improve prompt effectiveness and learn updated procedures

Required‍

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Strong reading comprehension and written communication skills

• Proficiency with basic computer applications (web browsers, file management, copy/paste operations)

• Ability to follow detailed written procedures consistently

• Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry tasks

• Comfortable working with new software tools and technologies

Preferred

• Associate degree or coursework in any field

• Experience with ticketing systems, help desk software, or project management tools

• Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar platforms

• Basic understanding of software development concepts (helpful but not required)

• Prior experience in data entry, transcription, or clerical roles

Key Competencies

• Process Adherence: Follows established procedures without deviation; asks questions when unclear rather than improvising

• Written Communication: Writes clearly and precisely; understands the importance of word choice in prompt construction

• Organization: Manages multiple user stories simultaneously; maintains clean documentation

• Reliability: Produces consistent output quality; meets productivity expectations

• Adaptability: Adjusts to evolving procedures and prompt templates as best practices develop

Performance Metrics

• Volume of user stories processed per sprint

• First-pass acceptance rate (percentage of generated code requiring minimal revision)

• Documentation completeness and accuracy

• Adherence to prompt templates and procedures

• Turn-around time from story assignment to code submission

Training and Development

This position includes an initial training period covering:

• Introduction to the software development lifecycle and user story structure

• Azure DevOps navigation and workflow

• Claude Code operation and prompt entry procedures

• Company-specific prompt templates and best practices
