Job description

Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital
Department: Mammography
Position is located: Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital
Work Type: Full Time
Hours Per Week: 40 Hours per Week
Work Schedule: Variable
Summary:
Reports to the Manager, Radiology. Functions support include, but are not limited to: patient scheduling, pre-admission registration, order entry, film file maintenance, report file maintenance and radiology information system file maintenance. Acts as a frequent liaison with Patient Accounts, Billing, Coding, Registration, and Insurance verification. Frequent contact with physicians, patients and the public.
Responsibilities:
  • Verifies that current and pertinent patient demographics, dates and insurance information are obtained.
  • Verifies that all information input into the computer is accurate and complete.
  • Verifies that appropriate signatures/authorizations are obtained on chart.
  • Verifies that copies of outpatient records are distributed according to procedure.
  • Works closely with Medical Imaging Technical Staff and Physicians regarding patient charts and procedures.
  • Assists the DMI with developing a protocol that ensures all needed exam information is placed in the IS in a timely fashion.
  • Performs entry of outpatient walk-ns and add-ons.
  • Ensures film files are correctly coded and filed.
  • Performs merging of current films with prior Medical Center films.
  • Performs film sign-outs to include that films on loan are properly signed out.
  • Performs follow-up on films not returned on a timely basis.
  • Obtain prior comparison images in a timely fashion.
  • Helps to monitor system performance to ensure that radiographic reports are dictated, transcribed, distributed and filed on a timely basis.
  • Radiology Information System (Meditech FUJI PACS)
  • In conjunction with other members of department management, ensures that all orders are input on a daily basis and processed correctly.
  • Able to respond to coworker's questions regarding features and functions of the system.
  • Helps to monitor response time for patient scheduling, order entry and related functions on a periodic basis.
  • Able to push images to outside facilities.
  • Accurately logs daily patient work and updates patient information in the Meditech system.
  • Responsible for scheduling exams for various areas within Medical Imaging including CT, Fluoroscopy and U/S, MAM, MRI,NM, DXA
  • Appropriately determines a suitable time slot for each exam.
  • Relays the proper instructions and preps to patients and/or doctors offices for all exams.
  • Coordinates multiple exams for Fluoroscopy, CT Scan, Ultrasound and Mammography.
  • Ensures the exams follow a logical order with preps in correct sequence.
  • Releases x-rays to patients and/or doctors' offices after getting signed release by the patient and pre-packages all films to be picked up in advance for outside appointments.
  • Logs all clinic films to be read.
  • Acts as a chaperone for exams as needed.
  • Greets patients and ensures each department is aware of their patient's arrival in a timely fashion.
  • Answers patients' questions in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Reschedules appointments as necessary.
  • Retrieves records/films for physicians for examination.
  • Mails reports to outside offices.
  • Types and distributes exam schedules for the following day.
  • Prepares paperwork and envelopes in advance for the next day's exams
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.
