What is an entry associate attorney?

Entry Associate Attorneys are newly licensed lawyers who have recently graduated from law school and passed the bar exam. They typically work under the supervision of more experienced attorneys at law firms, corporations, or government agencies. Their responsibilities often include conducting legal research, drafting documents, assisting with case preparation, and communicating with clients. Entry Associate Attorneys gain practical experience and develop their legal skills as they begin their professional careers.

What types of cases or legal matters does an entry associate attorney typically handle in their first year?

As an Entry Associate Attorney, you can expect to work on a variety of foundational legal tasks such as conducting legal research, drafting memos and briefs, assisting with discovery, and supporting senior attorneys during hearings or depositions. While the specific matters depend on the firm’s practice areas, entry-level associates often rotate through different departments or support multiple projects to gain broad exposure. This not only helps build essential legal skills but also provides insight into potential areas of specialization as you advance in your career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry associate attorney, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Associate Attorney, you need a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, bar admission, strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills. Familiarity with legal research databases like Westlaw or LexisNexis and proficiency with document management systems are commonly required. Attention to detail, effective communication, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for managing client expectations and collaborating with colleagues. These skills ensure accurate legal work, effective advocacy, and successful integration into a fast-paced legal environment.

What is the difference between Entry Associate Attorney vs Paralegal?

AspectEntry Associate AttorneyParalegal

Work EnvironmentLaw firms, corporate legal departments, government agenciesLaw firms, legal departments, courts
Job ResponsibilitiesLegal research, drafting documents, client consultations, court appearancesLegal research, document preparation, case organization, client communication

The main difference between an Entry Associate Attorney and a Paralegal lies in their credentials and responsibilities. Entry Associate Attorneys are licensed lawyers with a JD and perform legal work that requires a law license, including court appearances. Paralegals assist attorneys with legal tasks but do not require a law license. Both roles work in similar environments but serve different functions within legal teams.

Commercial Litigation Attorney (Mid-Level Associate to Of Counsel)

Career Staffing Talent

Miami, FL • On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 29 days ago

Job description

Commercial Litigation Attorney (Mid-Level Associate to Of Counsel)

???? Coral Gables, FL (in-office, with hybrid flexibility after full integration)

???? Boutique business litigation firm — confidential search

???? Commensurate with experience and level of entry

???? Full-Time | Direct Hire

Career Staffing Talent has partnered with a Miami litigation boutique focused exclusively on sophisticated business litigation. The firm is open to hiring at the Mid-Level Associate, Senior Associate, Senior Counsel, or Of Counsel level, depending on experience and qualifications.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll handle complex commercial matters from pleadings through trial preparation — business disputes, contract litigation, shareholder and partnership disputes, fiduciary duty claims, real estate litigation, and banking and financial services litigation. The firm's attorneys routinely litigate against large regional and national firms, so you'll be expected to manage an active caseload independently, take and defend depositions, and argue substantive motions in court.

What We're Looking For

✔️ 5+ years handling sophisticated commercial litigation matters

✔️ Experience across all phases of litigation: pleadings, discovery, motion practice, hearings, mediation, and trial preparation

✔️ Significant deposition experience and courtroom experience arguing substantive motions

✔️ Excellent legal writing, grammar, and verbal communication skills

✔️ Strong academic and professional credentials

✔️ A polished, professional, client-facing presence

✔️ Strong analytical, strategic, and advocacy skills

✔️ Spanish fluency is a plus, but not required

Note: this practice is concentrated in complex commercial litigation. Candidates whose backgrounds are primarily in insurance defense are generally not a strong fit.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

You'll litigate high-stakes commercial matters against major regional and national firms — the kind of work that builds a serious litigator's résumé. The firm hires at multiple levels, so your title and compensation will reflect your actual experience rather than a rigid class-year structure.

The litigation team has a collaborative, in-person culture based in Miami. Once fully integrated, attorneys may move to a hybrid schedule of one to two remote days per week.

Interested?

Submit your resume along with your salary expectations. Candidates advancing in the process should be prepared to share two to three recent writing samples demonstrating their legal writing and advocacy skills.
