What is engraving and what does an engraver do?

Engraving is the process of incising a design onto a hard, usually flat surface by cutting grooves into it. An engraver uses specialized tools to create detailed images, text, or patterns on materials such as metal, glass, wood, or jewelry. The role involves both manual skill and, increasingly, the use of computer-aided machines for precision work. Engravers often work on trophies, plaques, personalized gifts, and industrial products.
