Job Description:

This job is a 40-hour, full-time benefitted position in the Adult Education Division that reports to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for High School Equivalency.

Schedule - Varies based on needs of program and will include nights and occasional Saturdays. The position is based at the Alpharetta North-Fulton campus and may occasionally work on the Lawrenceville Campus.

This individual will provide instruction in all of the following academic areas: computational and applied mathematics, reading comprehension and English grammar and writing skills, social studies and science. Students in this program are seeking high school equivalency certification.

Minimum Qualifications (Job Code 10214):

Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree or above, preferably with a focus on education; Two years teaching experience in a classroom setting (in-person or virtual). This position requires exceptional customer service, multi-tasking, critical thinking, and verbal/written communication skills. Microsoft Word, Excel and instructional software experience.

Candidates must have an in-depth knowledge of the subject(s) being taught and possess a strong interest in teaching. Candidates must be proficient in middle through high school level education in both in-person and virtual platforms. Specific abilities may include:

Demonstrate numeric functions, equations, and various mathematical principles to students.

Able to help students think hypothetically, figure out cause and effect, understand mathematical structures, and verify solutions.

Know and understand the rules of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and syntax for both written and oral contexts

Understand how to communicate ideas both verbally and in writing to accomplish a variety of purposes.

Clearly conveys ideas from texts or other supplementary materials.

In addition, candidates must possess demonstrated abilities in the area of counseling techniques; experience in planning, organization, and coordinating work; ability to complete detailed paperwork; ability to interact with employees, students and the general public in a tactful and courteous manner; effective written and oral communication skills; flexible, responsible, efficient and enthusiastic. Ability to accommodate different learning styles with sensitivity to diverse cultures.

Job Functions:

Considerable discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive materials is required. Effectively prepares for and instructs class as assigned following pre-defined curriculum. Instructors maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. Candidates must be computer literate and willing to use a variety of instructional methods and techniques. Participation in staff development training sessions may be required. Individuals must write and speak in a well-organized and coherent manner that adapts to the individual needs of students. Instructor is able to conduct effective classroom discussions by managing groups, asking questions, eliciting and probing responses, and summarizing for comprehension.
