JOB SUMMARY

The Professional Writing Office is looking for enthusiastic individuals to work as Writing Consultants in our business-centered office.  The position requires the following:

  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to shift communication style, tone and audience seamlessly
  • Exceptional writing and communication aptitude-able to skillfully manage a wide range of personalities and maintain sensitivity to diverse populations who may need additional tutoring assistance. Must be able to help with various formats associated with business, but also general mechanics and grammar
  • Able to manage ones time without losing focus or being distracted
  • Self-driven with a proven record of being able to pace oneself to complete tasks without direct supervision
  • A "can do" attitude who believes in delivering outstanding service to anyone who they come in contact with
  • Junior-level in good standing with a GPA of a 3.5 or higher in English/writing courses
  • Willing to perform general office tasks and promotions for a small campus office in order to garner new foot traffic
  • Must have transportation to campus to work 50% of shift or more in-person-this is not a fully online position

Preferred but not required skills:

  • Completion of Management 3500 with a B+ or better
  • Promotion and social media aptitude and a desire to maintain our office
  • Spanish speaker

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

A day-in the life of a PWO Writing Consultant consists predominantly with tutoring both graduate and undergraduate students in their business writing and communications assignments.  This requires the prospective employee to think quickly on their feet, wearing various "hats" in order to be effective as one person may enter needing help with content and another wants guidance on mechanics and grammar.  Must be able to transition from various needs of our student population and do so with grace and a positive attitude. Tutoring sessions run 3 minutes per session with students having the option of working a full hour is need be.

Beyond tutoring activities, employees are expected to complete administrative tasks and promotions to make students award of our services.  Administrative tasks include, but are not limited to: generating reports for faculty, creating fliers, assisting in campus events and general maintenance of the PWO functions per the Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills. DO NOT apply if you are not a skilled writer and critical thinker.  Must be able to work through a wide range of assignments to help students perfect their writing or improve with each writing task.  Employee must be of junior standing and have passed MGMT 3500 (or equivalent) with a "B+" or better and have a GPA of a 3.5 or better.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills. DO NOT apply if you are not a skilled writer and critical thinker.  Must be able to work through a wide range of assignments to help students perfect their writing or improve with each writing task.  Employee must be of junior standing and have passed MGMT 3500 (or equivalent) with a "B+" or better and have a GPA of a 3.5 or better.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Spanish speaker is a plus and interest in social media and promotions.
