SCH OF HEALTH, NUTRITION & WELLNESS - Graduate Assistant
Job Classification
Position summary
The School of Health, Nutrition & Wellness seeks a motivated graduate student to provide teaching, program, and departmental support during the Fall semester, working with faculty in public health, lifestyle medicine, health education, and community-based health initiatives. The student will initially assist with teaching and program preparation, including campus lifestyle education and events planned for September. Continued employment and weekly hours will depend on program needs, performance, and available funding.
Qualifications summary
Currently enrolled Andrews University graduate student with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA and good academic standing. Excellent written English, editing, and professional communication skills required, along with strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Interest in public health, health education, nutrition, wellness, Health Message and lifestyle medicine required. Prior teaching, tutoring, or health education experience is a plus.
Duties and responsibilities
Assist faculty with course preparation, teaching materials, and other instructional activities. Support preparation and implementation of student-led health education and lifestyle medicine activities. Assist with the September campus lifestyle education and Walk with a Doc pilot events. Help prepare educational materials, handouts, presentations, and program resources. Assist with organization, scheduling, communication, and documentation related to departmental projects. Review and edit written materials for clarity, accuracy, grammar, and professional presentation. Assist with departmental health promotion and community outreach initiatives.
Assist with basic video recording, video editing, and preparation of educational or social media content. Perform other related teaching and program-support responsibilities as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities
None. This position does not supervise other employees or students.
Qualifications
Required: Currently enrolled as a Graduate Student at Andrews University. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. Good academic standing. Excellent written English, editing, and professional communication skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently after receiving instructions and to meet deadlines reliably. Professional, dependable, and able to work collaboratively with faculty and students. Interest in public health, health education, nutrition, wellness, lifestyle medicine, or related fields. Preferred: Student in the School of Health, Nutrition & Wellness. Qualified students from other Andrews University programs will also be considered. Previous teaching, tutoring, research, health education, or program-assistance experience. Experience with Canva, PowerPoint, or similar educational content tools. Knowledge of video production, recording, or editing. Experience creating educational or social media content.
Technical competencies
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace (documents, presentations, spreadsheets). Familiarity with Canva, PowerPoint, or similar presentation/design tools. Basic video recording and editing skills are a plus.
Interpersonal interactions
Must be comfortable interacting professionally with faculty, staff, and fellow students in a teaching and program-support role, including helping facilitate small-group activities during health education events such as Walk with a Doc.
Physical demands
Primarily sedentary office and classroom work. Occasional light lifting (up to 25 pounds) and standing/walking may be required when helping set up materials for campus health education events.
Work environment
Primarily an indoor office and classroom setting, with occasional work in outdoor or event spaces on campus during health education events such as Walk with a Doc.
