  • Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of rhetorical analysis, argumentation, synthesis of sources, nonfiction prose analysis, rhetorical strategies including ethos, pathos, and logos, and composition techniques. Ability to explain author purpose, audience awareness, tone analysis, evidence evaluation, and structural choices while preparing students for the AP English Language and Composition examination.
  • Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching close reading of nonfiction texts, rhetorical analysis essay construction, and evidence-based argumentation. Guides students through identifying rhetorical devices, analyzing authorial choices, synthesizing multiple sources into a coherent argument, and crafting thesis-driven essays under timed conditions. Emphasizes developing a sophisticated analytical voice and connecting rhetorical analysis to media literacy and civic discourse.
  • Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with AP English Language curriculum and common challenges such as distinguishing rhetorical strategies from literary devices, developing nuanced thesis statements, and managing three essays within the free-response time limit. Adapts instruction using released AP prompts, mentor text analysis, and rubric-based peer review to support students building advanced reading and writing skills for the AP examination.
  • Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
