Title: Engineer in Training
Position Summary: Shadow current district engineers to acquire required hours of hands on training, become familiar with district equipment/assets, and acclimate to day-to-day work schedule. The expected outcome of this position is for selected candidate(s) to become a fully licensed Building Engineer who holds their water tenders boiler license.

Engineers in training will spend one (1) quarter at one of the District School Buildings. Rotation of which buildings will be determined prior to placement.
Applicant will have two (2) years to receive their water tenders certification through the City of Erie. Applicant will return to comparable former position, if certification is not acquired.
Salary: In accordance with Local No. 95 Contract
Reporting Relationship: Building Engineer/Environmental Services Manager(s).
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical, technical equipment and applications as related to specific site and job functions
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools, custodial equipment, cleaning materials and procedures
  • 2+ years satisfactory EPS evaluations

Training Requirements:
Management Training
Receive training on oversite of custodians, district policy, and other functions outside of day-to-day operations, including:
  • Payroll
  • Progressive discipline
  • Positive work environment
  • Professionalism in the workplace
  • Budget compliance/spend down sheets
  • Scheduling

Custodial Training
  • Review training manual in its entirety
  • Sign off on all aspects of custodial job
  • Thorough understanding of district cleanliness standards
  • New custodian hire training and checklist
