Job description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a motivated, analytical and detail-oriented Test Engineering Intern to join our manufacturing test engineering team in Pullman, WA. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with board-level test systems and contributes to improving manufacturing quality and efficiency. This opportunity is ideal for students who enjoy solving technical problems, analyzing data, and applying electrical engineering fundamentals to real-world projects. Candidates with availability to work part-time during the academic year and the possibility of working full-time during the summer are encouraged to apply.


A typical day as an Engineering Intern might include:

  • Analyze manufacturing test data and first-pass yield (FPY) metrics to identify trends, recurring failures and opportunities for improvement.

  • Review and optimize flying probe test programs to improve fault coverage, reduce false failures and enhance overall test effectiveness.

  • Investigate low-yield tests, document observations and collaborate with test engineers in the team to develop corrective actions.

  • Support the development, validation, and continuous improvement of board-level test methodologies and processes.

  • Generate reports and present findings that help drive quality and manufacturing yield improvements.

  • Collaborate with hardware, software, manufacturing, and test engineers to resolve test-related issues and improve product quality.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, and manufacturing excellence.

This job might be for you if:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Strong understanding of basic electrical and electronic principles.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and circuit documentation.

  • Interest in manufacturing, test engineering and root cause analysis.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and proactively identify improvement opportunities.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL.

  • Negative drug test result(s).

It is a plus if you have:

  • Coursework or project experience in electronics, embedded systems or PCB design.

  • Familiarity with test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, logic analyzers and power supplies.

  • Experience analyzing test data using Excel, MATLAB, Python, JMP or similar tools.

  • Knowledge of PCB manufacturing, assembly processes, and common electronic components including resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors and integrated circuits.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently learn new technical concepts and drive projects to completion.

Pay Range Data - $24.25 - $33.00 hourly
