Job description

The opportunity:

Associated Engineering, a proudly Canadian, employee-owned company, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Intermediate Civil Engineering Technologist to join our team in our Niagara-on-the-Lake office. In this role you will be responsible for working with a team of professional engineers and technologists to provide design services in accordance with company and client standards. The work will be performed for a variety of public and private sector clients with a focus on civil related design and drafting, including earthworks, utility piping, surface drainage, and roadways, in both rural and urban municipal settings.

Excellent communication and strong organizational skills are required. We are seeking individuals who are capable of efficiently managing multiple tasks while meeting project deadlines and who thrive in a dynamic team environment. The position will also provide you with autonomy, as you will be required to complete tasks with minimal supervision and have the ability to move into a project CAD lead role.

What you'll do:

  • Prepare preliminary, detailed design, and contract drawings for municipal infrastructure projects, including roads, watermains, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, drainage systems, and site servicing works.
  • Develop engineering plans, profiles, cross-sections, grading plans, and construction details using AutoDesk Civil3D.
  • Assist with the preparation of contract documents, including technical specifications, tender packages, and construction standards.
  • Prepare schedules of quantities, cost estimates, and quantity take-offs for tendering and project budgeting purposes.
  • Coordinate with utility companies for construction relocations and baseplan updates
  • Coordinate and review survey information, utility records, and other project data required for design.
  • Conduct topographic surveys/data collection when needed, this would be an asset.
  • Conduct engineering calculations related to grading, drainage, servicing, and road design projects
  • Participate in project meetings and coordinate with clients, municipalities, utility companies, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Perform site inspections during construction to monitor progress and verify compliance with contract documents, specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Prepare field reports, deficiency lists, progress reports, and construction documentation.
  • Assist with contract administration duties, including change orders, payment certifications, and project close-out documentation. Review shop drawings, contractor submissions, and requests for information (RFIs).
  • Support permit and approval applications with municipalities and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain project records and ensure compliance with company quality control procedures.
  • Assist senior engineering staff with project management, scheduling, and coordination activities.


Does this sound like you?

  • A diploma in civil engineering, or engineering design and drafting, from an accredited technical institution.
  • Registered or eligible or registration with OACETT.
  • 8+ years experience designing using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, with keen attention to design.
  • Familiarity and design experience on civil infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Experience in a multi-discipline design environment is an asset.
  • Committed team player with the ability to work independently.
