Job description

Position title: Engineering Technician IV

Location: Arlington, Virginia

Clearance required: Public Trust

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Collaborates with department leadership to define project requirements and develops comprehensive concept plans and feasibility studies for office renovations and space reconfigurations.
  • Prepares detailed architectural layouts for furniture, equipment, and personnel placement, optimizing for workflow, ergonomics, and compliance with safety and accessibility (ADA) standards.
  • Engineers and produces complete, technically sound construction drawings, material specifications, and statements of work (SOW) suitable for competitive bidding and contracting actions.
  • Serves as the primary coordinator for all building-related trouble calls; investigates, diagnoses, and documents issues, and liaises with the Lessor's Building Engineer staff to ensure timely and effective resolution.
  • Provides on-site oversight for small-to-medium scale renovation and installation projects, ensuring work is performed according to contract specifications, on schedule, and with minimal disruption to daily operations.
  • Reviews contractor submittals, shop drawings, and proposed changes to ensure compliance with the original design intent and all applicable building codes.
  • Establishes and maintains a centralized library of all facility-related documentation, including as-built drawings, construction plans, warranties, and maintenance records.
  • An associate's degree from an accredited institution in engineering technology and five (5) years of relevant experience as an engineering technician OR a National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certification and ten (10) years of relevant experience as an engineering technician.
