Job description


MISSION / SUMMARY:

TheEngineering Technician position is a position at GPI's Foodservice Technical Center with responsibilities on testing, benchmarking, and performing quantitative and qualitative analysis of products to support the research and development of fiber and plastic based food packaging. The candidate will work with internal and external resources to support both routine and developmental testing. The position is part of a world class talented engineering & technical team in the Foodservice Technical Center and will report to the Senior Manager, Research & Development.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.

  • Operate all laboratory equipment to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of products.
  • Follow standardized test procedures (Internal, ANSI, ASTM, TAPPI).
  • Assist in the development of new testing methodologies for new products, equipment, or processes.
  • Record detailed documentation of results in a standardized format.
  • Assist with the development and execution of experiments for new and existing product and process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with benchmarking efforts for internal and competitor products.
  • Assist with trials and prototyping efforts.
  • Provide technical assistance from product conception to production launch.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations relative to assigned analytical work; maintain and assist others in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Facilitate, encourage, promote, and engage in teamwork activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • At least two years of professional work experience in an engineering, laboratory or quality control environment is preferred.

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • High School Diploma/GED required. Continued education in a STEM field is a plus.

SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated excellent written communication skills.
  • Detail and data oriented with precise documentation and record keeping skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite skills required.
  • Excellent Excel skills preferred.
  • Basic understanding of statistical methodologies.
  • Well-organized workflow and deadline oriented.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment.
  • Up to 10% travel to manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and customers to include flying, driving, riding, or by rail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.
