Job description

Purpose
Seeking Engineers to fill position in our Transmission and Distribution Line Design Team.
Junior level engineer: With some guidance, will prepare models, perform route selection, assist with right-of-way acquisition, line and structure spotting and optimization. Prepare material and construction specifications, design criteria and construction drawings, procure materials, and support project through construction. Perform structure analysis and design of pole, framed, self-supporting and guyed structures and foundations. May also work as a teammate with an engineering technician.
Senior level engineer: In addition to junior level engineer - Leads and directs work of others. Provides expert judgment and analysis. Leads in training entry level engineers. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Resolves highly complex technical issues and conducts advanced research.
Accountabilities
  • Plan, design, and review transmission and distribution line projects to ensure timely completion that is consistent with Company standards, NESC, and other applicable codes or regulatory requirements, is cost effective within budget guidelines.
  • Perform detailed analysis and design of wood pole, steel pole, steel lattice, and other structures and foundations using Finite Element Analysis techniques as well as industry standard software.
  • Responsible for producing design drawings for internal or external project from routine equipment replacement and installations to complete design of new facilities, and generate documentation for these transmission and distribution lines, preparing specifications, sag and tension calculations, electrical clearance calculations, conductor sizing and transmission line routing diagrams.
  • Review and comment on internal and external structural steel drawings, foundation details and general layout drawings. Plan and coordinate work for engineering techs, drafting techs, and contractors.
  • Solve problems regarding line design, right-of-way, and material with internal and external customers to ensure successful completion of projects.
  • Manage and support construction project flow, including field meetings, resolving project construction conflicts, and resource scheduling.
  • Utilize excellent written and verbal communication skills to promote change within the company.
  • Enhance the company by implementing time- and cost-saving methods of completing tasks within the department

Education and Experience
Junior level engineer:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain EIT certificate within 12 months preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD applications.
  • Must have valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Willing to travel once trained, up to (15% with some overnights)

Senior level engineer:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 5+ years of T&D utility experience.
  • Working knowledge in AutoCAD, PLS-CAD, PLS-POLE, CIASSON/FAD
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for compiling technical reports.
