SUMMARY:

The Project Engineer II supports the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, documenting, and executing civil construction projects from turnover through closeout. This role serves as a key liaison between the field and office, helping maintain project schedules, document control, procurement, cost tracking, change management, quality standards, and client expectations. The Project Engineer II works with growing independence, may support multiple project phases, and may be assigned to an office or project site based on business needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide project engineering support to Project Managers across planning, coordination, execution, and closeout activities.
• Review contract documents, plans, specifications, drawings, and project scope to develop familiarity with project requirements and support project coordination.
• Assist with project schedules by tracking milestones, delivery dates, subcontractor requirements, manpower needs, two-week look-aheads, and other project activities as directed.
• Maintain and organize project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, correspondence, permits, drawings, and project records.
• Prepare, track, and follow up on RFIs, product submittals, shop drawings, and responses under the direction of the Project Manager or Project Engineer.
• Assist with reviewing supplier and subcontractor submittals, materials, equipment, shop drawings, product information, and related documentation for completeness and alignment with project requirements.
• Support change management by gathering field information, assisting with takeoffs, documenting potential changes, and preparing supporting information for change order estimates or proposals.
• Assist with project cost and financial processes, including schedule of values, billing documentation, committed cost review, budget tracking, and follow-up on outstanding items as directed.
• Participate in internal and external project meetings to gain an understanding of project progress, scheduling, budgeting, material needs, manpower, and other project coordination items.
• Communicate with field teams to gather information related to site activities, construction operations, sequencing, material needs, and project coordination.
• Assist the project team with identifying potential value-engineering, process improvement, and risk-mitigation opportunities.
• Help ensure current drawings and project information are available to appropriate team members and assist with maintaining updated office and field drawing sets.
• Support project closeout activities by helping gather record drawings, O&M manuals, warranties, training documentation, punch list items, and other required closeout documents.
• Attend on-site project meetings, walk-throughs, and job walks with Project Managers, Project Engineers, or field leadership as needed.
• Develop working knowledge of project management processes, civil construction practices, and company procedures while progressively taking on additional responsibilities as experience and proficiency increase.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND SKILLS:

• Minimum 2 years of project engineering, field engineering, project coordination, estimating, or related civil construction experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent construction experience, field experience, or completion of a related construction training program may be considered.
• Working knowledge of civil construction plans, specifications, site plans, grading plans, utility plans, construction terminology, and basic construction sequencing.
• Experience or familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, document control, scheduling, and project closeout processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office/O365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
• Experience with project management, document control, scheduling, estimating, or construction technology platforms preferred.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Ability to communicate professionally and work effectively with Project Managers, field leadership, subcontractors, vendors, clients, and internal teams.
• Ability to recognize project issues, gather information, document details, and communicate questions or concerns to the appropriate project team member.
• Field experience or exposure to civil construction, site development, utilities, grading, or related construction activities is a plus.
