Site & Utility Engineer – Mid Level – Forest Lake

Are you ready to bring your site and utility design expertise to a collaborative and growing team? KL Engineering is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer to join our Site and Utility group. This is your opportunity to work on a wide variety of impactful infrastructure projects while enjoying flexibility, professional growth, and a supportive work environment.

What You'll Do:
  • Design & Deliver: Lead or support the preparation of project plans, specifications, cost estimates, and reports for site and utility projects using Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
  • Coordinate & Collaborate: Work alongside project managers and with internal teams to ensure successful project delivery. May also work with clients and permitting agencies.
  • Model & Coordinate: Assist with stormwater management modeling, permitting, and coordination.
  • Observe & Administer: Oversee construction observation and administration tasks, including contractor submittals, RFIs, and pay requests.
  • Lead & Grow: Depending on your interests, take on project management responsibilities or continue to develop your technical expertise while mentoring junior staff or a blend of both.
What We're Looking For:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering.
  • Experience: 4+ years of experience in site and utility design.
  • Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) license desired, but not required. Candidate shall be on the path to pursing licensure when eligible.
  • Skills: Familiarity with AutoCAD and Civil 3D; strong communication, organization, and time management; ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Mindset: Enthusiastic about contributing to meaningful infrastructure projects and delivering [A] Better Experience to clients and colleagues.
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel to project sites in and around Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience with stormwater management tools such as HydroCAD and WinSLAMM.
  • Familiarity with municipal roadway, sanitary, and water main design.
  • Knowledge of DOA, DFD, DNR, and WisDOT standards and procedures.
  • Experience with construction oversight and locally let municipal projects.
