This role will directly influence how we leverage cloud and AI technologies to create customer‑centric, secure, and scalable platforms that power the future of energy. We are seeking a strategic engineering executive to lead our Outcomes engineering organization as Vice President of Engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Guide and Develop Talent: Mentor and grow a world‑class engineering organization, empowering teams to deliver customer‑centric solutions with authenticity and accountability.
  • Define Technical Strategy: Define and execute cloud architecture strategies leveraging modern engineering practices, distributed systems, and secure‑by‑design concepts.
  • Deliver Innovative Solutions: Leveraging both Itron and third‑party endpoints and networks, deliver solutions to our utility customers that address their business goals and meet their expectations in terms of reliability, accuracy, scale and security.
  • Embed AI Innovation: Operationalize AI‑assisted design, coding, testing, and optimization to enhance velocity, quality, and operational intelligence.
  • Foster Collaborative Culture: Cultivate an environment of psychological safety, high trust, and agility, enabling teams to experiment, learn, and own outcomes.
  • Cross‑Functional Partnership: Develop effective relationships with Outcomes Product Management and other internal teams, as well as across Itron Business Units, to ensure alignment and achieve measurable business results.
  • Performance Excellence: Establish and monitor KPIs for reliability, customer outcomes, and engineering productivity, driving continuous improvement.
  • Ensure Resilience and Security: Promote operational resilience and compliance across the platform ecosystem.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field; master’s degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive engineering responsibility, including managing large, distributed, technical teams.
  • Proven experience architecting and delivering enterprise‑grade cloud‑based solutions running Microsoft Azure, AWS and other hyperscalers.
  • Demonstrated success integrating AI into the software development lifecycle (e.g., AI‑assisted coding, automated testing, intelligent monitoring, generative design tools).
  • Technical expertise in cloud‑native architectures, distributed systems, embedded firmware, system‑level APIs, and large‑scale data solutions.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages (.NET, Java, Python) and DevOps/CI/CD automation.
  • Strengths in strategic thinking, talent development, and inspiring high performance.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to align both internal and external stakeholders and influence outcomes.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Experience with large‑volume data ecosystems, real‑time streaming, or event‑driven architectures.
  • Familiarity with regulated or complex enterprise environments.
  • Advanced technical degree or executive‑level engineering management experience.
