Overview

We are currentlyย searching for a Electrical Engineer - Product Qualityย to join ourย growing engineering teamย here at our Sun Prairie Innovation Center! In thisย roleย you will provide cross functionalsupport throughout the NPD process,ย validateย costย effective design solutions, and prepare engineeringย test plans and reports.ย This engineer will also beย responsibleย to ensureย AprilAire products are safe, effective, and compliant to applicable standards through testย verification.ย 

Hybrid role with three days a weekย in office (Sun Prairie) required.


Responsibilities

The Productย Qualityย Engineer I will be tasked with responsibilities in the following key areas:ย 

  • Plan andย manageย testing ofย newย productsย as part of a cross functional team.ย 
  • Qualify changesย to existingย products and componentsย to addressย obsolescence, reliability, quality,ย andย cost.ย ย ย ย 
  • Understand andย maintainย testing proceduresย with an emphasis on electronics, electrical components, power distribution, andย controls.ย ย ย ย 
  • Create,ย maintain, and obtain approval of Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R).ย 
  • Serve asย Qualityย Ownerย forย one or more products,ย tracking andย trendingย quality dataย forย releasedย products.ย 
  • Participateย onย or lead process/productย improvementย projectsย usingย Six Sigmaย tools.ย ย 

Leadershipย ย 

  • Supportย product or productivity improvement opportunities.ย 
  • Participateย in design reviews and design decisions.ย 
  • Provide status and information to keep stakeholders informedย of progress on keyย test planย activitiesย and outcomes.ย 

Executionย 

  • Prepare production samples and prototypes for testing at internal and external labs.ย ย ย ย 
  • Support process improvement and cost reduction projects without compromising product quality.ย ย ย ย 
  • Prepare testing set ups (i.e.ย equipment, fixtures, etc.), build test fixtures asย requiredย and perform tests according to procedures.ย ย ย ย 
  • Monitor test data,ย analyzeย and prepare test reports.ย ย ย ย 
  • Use engineering problem solving tools and methods to systematically solve production or customer issues.ย 

Processย 

  • Review and approveย Change Requests (CR)ย andย Change Notices (CN)ย in the Windchill PLM system.ย 
  • Collaborate with others in the Engineering team and other departments toย accomplishย goals and solve issuesย 

Technicalย 

  • Develop andย maintainย test methods toย comply withย IEC 60730-1:Automaticย Electrical Controls for Household and Similar Useย andย IEC 60335-1: the Standard for the Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliancesย 
  • Provide technical input inย new productย developmentย activities and Engineering design reviews.ย 
  • Act as a technical resourceย toย troubleshoot and resolve circuit board defects.ย ย ย ย ย ย 
  • Collaborate withย Labย Operation teamย on planning and executing tests.ย 
  • Follow engineering and problem-solving principlesย (such as 8D or DMAIC)ย in the execution of day-to-day workย 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree inย Electrical/Electronicsย Engineering required.
  • Previous intern or co-op experienceย withย consumer products, commercialย productsย and/or electronic products highly desired.
  • Strong sense of urgency and drive to complete projects/tasks by expected deadlines.
  • Effective technical communication skillsย 
  • Working knowledge of regulations, standards, and codes such as IEC, IEEE, NEMA, NEC, UL, AHRI, and ASHRAEย is a plusย 
  • Basic wiring and soldering skillsย 
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematic for circuit analysis and troubleshootย 
  • Passion for improving Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and achieving the goal of healthy airย
