What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Engineering Faculty, and why are they important?
What Does an Engineering Faculty Member Do?
The job duties of an engineering faculty member revolve around instructing college students in the subject of engineering. In this career, your responsibilities include planning courses and creating a syllabus for each class that you teach. As a member of the engineering faculty, you may offer instruction in a specialty like mechanical or electrical engineering. You could also teach introductory level engineering courses to students who are new to the university. Some colleges expect faculty members to perform research or write academic articles in addition to teaching.
What is the difference between Engineering Faculty vs Engineering Lecturer?
| Aspect | Engineering Faculty | Engineering Lecturer |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Typically requires a PhD in engineering or related field | Usually requires at least a master's degree; a PhD is preferred for higher positions |
| Work Environment | Universities, research institutions, academic settings | Universities, colleges, academic classrooms |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Academic institutions, research organizations | Higher education institutions, colleges |
| Common Search & Comparison | Often compared for academic roles in engineering | Often compared with Engineering Faculty for teaching positions |
Engineering Faculty and Engineering Lecturer roles both involve teaching engineering subjects at higher education institutions. Engineering Faculty typically refers to faculty members holding advanced degrees and engaging in research, while Engineering Lecturers focus primarily on teaching responsibilities, often with a master's degree. Both roles are essential in academia, but the Faculty position usually involves research and administrative duties, whereas Lecturers concentrate on classroom instruction.
