Job description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for supporting the Director of Assembly, Integration, & Test (AI&T) in managing and overseeing engineering personnel and technical principals and practices in executing AI&T for hypersonic missile testing, small scale production, and related activities. Responsible to manage and direct (direct or via matrix) the senior technical managers for software, electrical, mechanical, systems engineering, configuration management/data management, logistics, and test engineering departments and branches. Responsible for knowing and understanding the technical and related programmatic details of all programs/missions and providing guidance and direction relative to technical concept formulation, requirements trace, resource assignment and utilization, and manpower, schedule and budget execution. The manager is expected to establish a professional work environment that fosters team building, cooperation, and synergy across all engineering departments/branches and other Kratos functional elements.
The manager will identify, recommend, and implement engineering and logistics technologies, processes, and procedures in a manner that provides structure and standardization to technical capabilities and management across all programs and missions.
Provides guidance and direction to all programs/missions relative to technical solutions, technical planning, and implementation, which results in a comprehensive systems engineering approach that is based upon the DoD Defense Acquisition Framework. The objective is to foster a technically advanced and requirements based engineering and logistics approach which is repeatable, traceable, efficient, scalable, and predictable.
Interface horizontally with Business Operations, Contracts, Program Management, Manufacturing/Production, Security, and Facility Management personnel on a peer level to establish technical priorities, set interdepartmental expectations, and ensure all program requirements are properly identified, addressed, and met.
Implement standard reporting process(es) that provides mechanisms for evaluating all technical products in a like manner. This includes setting standards and identifying metrics that are common across all programs, and provide information for evaluating design trends across the company.
Implement up and down communication channels within the department that provide timely insight to emerging issues and a mechanism for proactive management. Ensure all customer communications are performed in a timely manner, provide clear and accurate information and result in positive customer confidence.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Knowledge and understanding of hypersonic missile testing processes
  • Experienced in AI&T, HWIL testing and troubleshooting, and range support activities
  • Strong engineering leadership ability and experience
  • DoD-based Systems Engineering experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Required:
  • Defense Acquisition University or Program Management Institute Oriented.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing large groups (50 or more people) with multi-disciplinary skills and tasking.
  • Candidate must be U.S. Persons as defined in the ITAR, 22 CFR 120.15 (U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien Status) and as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1101(a) (20).
  • Candidate must be able to obtain a US Government security clearance to project specific appropriate level, as required.

Preferred:
  • Systems Planning, Research, Development and Engineering (SPRDE) training for Systems Engineering or Program Systems Engineer with logistics experience.
  • DoD Acquisition experience as PM.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
  • 10 years of similar related experience in technical leadership and management.
  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science field related to system design and development.
  • MS in technical, engineering or management to compliment BS degree; experience to support in lieu of education may be considered.

Preferred:
  • Experience in training system design highly desirable.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Smoke free environment, standard office setting
  • Sits for long periods of time in front of computer
  • Moves around between facilities and around the shop floors, may require standing on feet for extended periods
