Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
This Senior Instrument Engineer position is for a direct-hire working for HGA in the Baton Rouge, LA office. This position will report to the E&I Dept Manager. Candidate shall have experience in the PetroChemical industry as the Lead Instrument/Control Systems Engineer on multiple projects. Electrical Engineering design experience is a plus but not required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ability to analyze a general project scope and understand the required design activities needed to complete a complex engineering design package.
  • Prepare E&I manhour estimates and deliverables list for proposals.
  • Direct designers and drafters in the production of construction drawing packages per industry and client standards.
  • Provide detailed instrumentation sizing calculations for Petrochemical applications.
  • Develop instrument specifications and requisitions for vendor supplied equipment.
  • Develop control system, DCS, PLC, and Safety Instrumented Systems specifications and requisitions for vendor supplied equipment.
  • Provide E&I input to project P&ID drawings.
  • Interface with client Instrument SME.
  • Perform thorough checking of electrical and instrument design packages.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelors' Degree from an accredited university/college in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an Instrument and/or Control Systems Engineer.
  • Experience with a consulting engineering firm and completion of petrochemical industry projects is required.
  • Experience with design of industrial DCS, SIS, and PLC systems.
  • Experience upgrading legacy control systems to modern DCS systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering practices, design details, procedures, and specifications, including the Process Industry Practices (PIP), National Electrical Code (NEC), and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Experience with Instrucalc and various vendor sizing softwares for sizing Flow Meters, Control Valves, etc.
  • Project estimating experience with Aspen Icarus a plus.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
  • Professional Engineering registration by examination is preferred but not required.

  • A high degree of capability in engineering management, communications, client relationship, and team management.
  • Ability to react promptly and efficiently to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a variety of sources including team members, subcontractors, and other departments.
  • Ability to develop project scope, estimate engineering tasks and deliverables, and lead team to bring projects to a successful completion.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to delegate and manage time and resources efficiently.
