The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a skilled
Design Team Leader (Engineering Manager I) to lead our Region Three design group in Orem, Utah.

As the Design Team Leader, you will provide technical leadership, team supervision, and oversight across roadway design projects to ensure on-time, high-quality project delivery.

- Salary Range: $46.67 - $74.06/hr
- FT/PT Status: Full Time

Key Responsibilities
- Lead & Mentor: Supervise and guide design and rotational engineers - fostering technical growth, managing workloads, and evaluating performance.
- Drive Project Delivery: Oversee project schedules and execution for both internal and consultant-led roadway design initiatives.
- Champion Quality & Standards: Ensure all design deliverables meet quality control/assurance (QA/QC) goals, while serving on statewide committees to shape future design manuals and industry standards.
- Collaborate & Select: Evaluate and select consultant engineering firms, oversee their work products, and serve as the primary liaison across internal divisions, partner agencies, and external stakeholders.
- Maintain Expertise: Stay current on evolving industry standards, tools, and technical best practices.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Professional Licensure: Active registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Utah OR an active PE license in another U.S. state with the ability to obtain Utah PE reciprocity prior to your start date.
- Post-Licensure Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of professional engineering experience following initial PE licensure.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated background in roadway design with a thorough command of standard AASHTO and state DOT design principles.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and project management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- UDOT Specific Standards: Direct experience applying UDOT design criteria, reference manuals, standard drawings, and project delivery procedures.
- Team Leadership: Experience supervising, mentoring, or guiding engineers or technical staff, including overseeing work delivery and supporting career development.
