The Engineering Technician II is responsible for performing electrical, mechanical, audio, and environmental tests of current and new product designs under general supervision. Works with Engineering and is involved with problem identification, containment activities, action plan creation and execution. Ensures that the test requirements for product testing and processes are defined and met. Coordinates continuous improvement activities to reduce the potential for product defects. The Engineering Technician II reports to an Engineering Supervisor and/or Manager.
Responsibilities:
  • Setup test equipment and products in proper sequence per testing procedures
  • Perform tests on prototypes, existing, and competitor products for stated criteria involving mechanical, electrical, environmental, and electromechanical functions through ISO 17025 and Laboratory Scope of Operations
  • Use various mechanical, electrical, and electronic measurement devices
  • Accurately interpret and document scientific notation, temperature, pressure, and other measurements
  • Assists in the assembly and fabrication of test equipment and prototype products per blueprint specifications
  • Follow guidelines for bill of materials
  • Support manufacturing through troubleshooting activities; Maintain test-related documentation in, and support administration of, database environment
  • Prepare formal and informal test reports
  • Assist with the Generac Engineering Laboratory Audit and organization 5S programs

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications
  • 2 years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience participating in project teams
  • Experience with basic electrical measuring equipment (DVOM, clamp meter, IR, thermometer, wet-dry thermometer, etc)
  • Experience with wire harness assembly and tools
  • Experience using specialized equipment such as engine dynamometers
  • Experience in welding , shaping sheet metal, mill or turning (dependent on lab location).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus.
