The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City.
Serves as Assistant Civil Engineer/Project Manager within the QA/Environmental Engineering Unit, overseeing bridge coating, painting, corrosion control, environmental compliance, and quality assurance activities for NYCDOT bridge projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and oversee contractor and consultant surface preparation and coating application to ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, industry standards, and applicable regulations. Review and evaluate contractor's submittals, including plans, specifications, environmental protection plans, waste management plans, worker safety plans, surface preparation and painting plans, and paint quality control plans.
Conduct field inspections and site visits to verify compliance with NYCDOT specifications, coating industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Prepare technical reports, recommendations, project documentation, and status updates for management.
Attend and participate in coating-related project progress meetings, technical review meetings, and coordination meetings with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies, coating manufacturers, inspection firms, and other stakeholders to ensure regulatory and technical compliance.
Manage QA/Environmental Engineering Unit consulting contracts for coating inspection services, including proposal development, bid preparation, budget analysis, contract administration, scheduling, payment verification, and commitment planning.
Supervise consultants and inspection personnel performing coating inspections and quality assurance activities.
Ensure proper surface preparation and application of protective coating systems in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety requirements.
Serve as a quality assurance professional focused on corrosion prevention and the long-term durability of bridge structures.
Enforce compliance with NYCDOT specifications and applicable standards and regulations, including AMPP/NACE, SSPC, OSHA, ASTM, NYSDEC, and NYCDEP requirements.
Provide oversight of lead paint and coating removal operations, ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Oversee hazardous waste management, environmental protection measures, lead safety programs, and regulatory compliance activities.
Report directly to the Director of Environmental Engineering and provide regular project updates, technical analyses, and progress reports.
